Read-It-Later Apps That Work With Claude via MCP (2026)
Which read-it-later apps work with Claude via MCP in 2026: official vs community servers for Readwise, Raindrop, Instapaper, Matter, and more, plus setup.
You have hundreds of articles saved in a read-it-later app. Claude is where you actually think and write. The obvious question: can Claude read your saved articles directly, so you can ask "what have I saved about pricing?" instead of digging through a list?
In 2026, the answer is yes for most apps — through MCP (Model Context Protocol), the open standard that lets Claude call external tools. But the setup ranges from a two-click official connector to a self-hosted server you build yourself, and some apps can't be connected at all.
This guide covers every major read-it-later and bookmarking app: whether it has an MCP server, whether that server is official, how to set it up in Claude Desktop and Claude Code, and what Claude can actually do once it's connected.

Details for each are below.
How Read-It-Later MCP Servers Work
An MCP server sits between Claude and your app. When you ask a question, Claude decides to call a tool — say, search — and the server queries your saved library and hands the results back. Claude never imports your whole library; it searches it on demand, the same way it would search the web.
There are two setup styles you'll run into:
- Remote connectors (OAuth): You paste a URL into Claude (or pick the app from Claude's connector directory), sign in to the app in your browser, and you're done. Nothing installed locally. Readwise, Raindrop, and Notion work this way.
- Local servers (API token + config): You add a few lines to your Claude Desktop or Claude Code config file that run the server with
npx(or Python), plus an API token from the app. Restart Claude and the tools appear. Most community servers work this way.
Neither is better for privacy by default — both read your library through the app's API. Remote connectors are just easier to set up.
Readwise and Readwise Reader
Official, hosted, and the most complete option in this list. Readwise's MCP server covers both Readwise (your highlights) and Reader (your saved articles, PDFs, newsletters, and videos). It replaced the older highlights-only server and came out of beta in May 2026. Readwise is also listed in Claude's connector directory.
What Claude can do: search your highlights and full Reader documents, list and fetch documents as Markdown, read a document's highlights, save new documents, create highlights, and tag or organize items.
Setup:
- Claude (web or desktop): Add Readwise from the connector directory, or add
https://mcp2.readwise.io/mcpas a custom connector, then authorize your Readwise account. - Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http readwise https://mcp2.readwise.io/mcp, then authenticate with/mcp.
Best for: people who already live in Readwise and want Claude to work with their highlights. If your knowledge is mostly highlights, this is the one to beat.
Raindrop.io
Official, hosted, and free-plan friendly. Raindrop runs an official OAuth MCP server and extended it to the Free plan in June 2026 (search features are more limited on Free). It's also in Claude's connector directory.
What Claude can do: search bookmarks, collections, tags, and highlights; fetch a bookmark's full content; save new URLs; and create or edit highlights, bookmarks, and collections.
Setup:
- Claude: Connect Raindrop.io from the connector directory, or add
https://api.raindrop.io/rest/v2/ai/mcpas a custom connector and authorize in your browser. - Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http raindrop https://api.raindrop.io/rest/v2/ai/mcp, then authorize.
Community servers (adeze/raindrop-mcp, kud/mcp-raindrop-io) exist too, but there's little reason to use them now that the official one is available.
Best for: visual bookmarkers who want Claude to search and organize a big link collection.
Instapaper
No official MCP server. Instapaper hasn't shipped one, so you're relying on community projects:
hendronf/Instapaper-MCP— the full-featured option: search and list bookmarks, get article text, manage highlights, save articles, and manage folders. It needs Instapaper API credentials.kenjudy/instapaper-mcp— save-only. Useful if you just want Claude to send links to Instapaper.
Both run locally in Claude Desktop or Claude Code. Neither is a one-step connector, and community servers can break when the app's API changes, so check the repo's recent activity before relying on one.
Pocket can't be connected to Claude anymore. Mozilla shut Pocket down on July 8, 2025, and the API and export option ended in November 2025. Old Pocket MCP servers on GitHub no longer work because there's no Pocket account left for them to reach.
If you exported your Pocket library before the shutdown, you can import it into another app on this list and connect that instead. Noverload, Readwise, and Raindrop all import Pocket exports. For a full rundown of where Pocket users went, see Pocket Replacement for AI Power Users.
Matter
No official MCP server. Matter has a first-party API and CLI, but not an MCP server. The main community project, pal4de/matter-reader-mcp, exposes search, document retrieval, highlights, and saving — but you deploy it yourself as a Cloudflare Worker with your Matter API token, and its author built it primarily for ChatGPT. Treat Claude support as possible, not guaranteed.
GoodLinks
No official MCP server. Community servers for GoodLinks read the app's local database on your Mac, so they only work on the machine where GoodLinks is installed. The ones we found are read-only: Claude can search links, list unread or starred items, and read saved content, but can't save new links.
Karakeep (formerly Hoarder)
Official local MCP server. The self-hostable bookmark manager ships its own server (@karakeep/mcp), now with around 29 tools covering search, reading, saving, lists, tags, and highlights. Setup is an API key plus your instance's address in your Claude config. It's a great fit if you already self-host.
mymind
Official, in public beta since June 2026. mymind added its own API, MCP server, and Claude connection, set up from mymind's extension settings. Claude can search your saved notes, articles, and images and save new notes. Tool coverage is still evolving while it's in beta.
Recall
Official. Recall saves articles, YouTube videos, and podcasts, summarizes them, and offers an MCP connection to your saved library. MCP access is included on its free plan, which caps AI summaries at 10 a month. Paid plans start at $10/month billed yearly. Setup instructions are on Recall's MCP page.
Best for: people who want summaries of mixed content and a simple path to Claude, and who don't need highlights.
Notion (Web Clipper)
If you clip articles into Notion, Notion's official MCP server is how Claude reaches them. It's hosted, in Claude's connector directory, and works with OAuth. Claude can search and fetch your pages, including clipped articles. It's a general Notion connector, though — it doesn't know which pages are "saved for later" versus your other docs.
Inoreader, Feedly, and RSS readers
RSS readers are mostly community-only. Inoreader has community servers (seiji/inoreader-mcp-server, dindicoelho/Inoreader-MCP) that list feeds and articles and can star or tag items; the API requires Inoreader Pro. Feedly has an official MCP server, but it's for Feedly Threat Intelligence, not your personal feeds — for those you'd use a community server like c0ffee0wl/feedly-mcp-server with a Feedly access token.
Give Claude a library it can actually reason over
Noverload saves articles, YouTube videos, X threads, and Reddit posts — then summarizes, transcribes, and makes all of it searchable from Claude over MCP.

Where Noverload Fits
Most read-it-later MCP servers give Claude access to a list: titles, URLs, maybe full text and highlights. That's useful, but Claude still has to do all the work of reading and making sense of everything, every time.
Noverload takes a different approach. Every item you save is processed before Claude ever sees it:
- YouTube videos get a full transcript, summary, and key takeaways
- Articles, X threads, Reddit posts, and PDFs get summarized, tagged, and embedded for semantic search
- Action items and frameworks are extracted from each piece
The Noverload MCP server then gives Claude tools built for synthesis, not just retrieval: semantic search across everything you've saved, explore_topic to pull together what your saves say about a subject, and extract_frameworks to find step-by-step methods. Ask "what do my saved videos and articles say about cold outreach?" and Claude searches summaries first, then pulls full text only where it needs detail.
Setup: create a personal access token in your Noverload dashboard settings, paste the config generated on /mcp into Claude Desktop, Claude Code, or Cursor, and restart. MCP is a Noverload Pro feature (trial users included).
Honest comparison: if your workflow is reading articles and highlighting the good parts, Readwise's MCP is excellent and you may not need anything else. Noverload is the better fit when your saves are a mix of YouTube, threads, and articles and you want Claude to answer from summaries and transcripts rather than raw links. Noverload also imports Pocket and Readwise exports, so moving doesn't mean starting over.
How to Choose
- You already use Readwise or Raindrop: use their official connector. Two minutes of setup, no reason to switch.
- You use Instapaper, Matter, or GoodLinks: expect a community server and some config work. Check the repo is maintained, or consider moving to an app with official support.
- You self-host: Karakeep's official MCP server is the cleanest option.
- You were on Pocket or Omnivore: there's nothing left to connect. Import your export into a supported app.
- Your saves are mostly YouTube and threads, not articles: pick something that transcribes and summarizes, like Noverload, so Claude isn't working from bare URLs.

FAQ
Does Readwise have an MCP server? Yes. Readwise has an official hosted MCP server covering both Readwise highlights and Reader documents, available in Claude's connector directory or at https://mcp2.readwise.io/mcp.
Does Raindrop.io have an MCP server? Yes. Raindrop has an official OAuth MCP server, available on the Free plan since June 2026 with some search limits. Connect it from Claude's connector directory.
Is there an Instapaper MCP server? Not an official one. Community servers like hendronf/Instapaper-MCP add search, article text, highlights, and saving, and run locally with Instapaper API credentials.
Does Pocket integrate with Claude? No. Pocket shut down in July 2025 and its API ended in November 2025, so no Pocket MCP server can connect anymore. Import your Pocket export into another app and connect that instead.
Can Claude read my saved articles without MCP? Only if you paste them in or upload them to a Project. MCP is what lets Claude search your saved library on its own, mid-conversation.
Do these work with ChatGPT and Cursor? Many do. Remote MCP servers work with any client that supports remote MCP, and local servers work in Cursor and other MCP clients with the same config. Check each app's docs for the clients it supports.
Which read-it-later app is best for Claude? For highlights-heavy reading, Readwise. For large bookmark collections, Raindrop. For a mix of YouTube, threads, and articles that Claude should be able to summarize and synthesize, Noverload.
